Full Spectrum of Learning

When you license Navigator, you gain access to a full spectrum of digital and offline learning activities, such as media-rich interactives, videos, labs, projects, and presentations. All offline tasks are rubric graded by learner, peer, or instructor. Navigator uses this full spectrum of activities to create individual learning pathways. Instructors can search by subject and standards to find, use, and modify digital and offline learning activities to fit the needs of their learners. Learners can learn independently using these learning activities in small groups or with the class.

The Learning Navigator’s catalog is rich with standard aligned, K-12 content that spans a variety of subjects. Teachers and students can search the free catalog to find, remix and share the content.

Open Quality Catalog

Navigator Library offers a robust collection of open education resources for K-12, post-secondary, and lifelong learning. The highly curated content is tagged to competencies that are crosswalked to state frameworks, and include accessibility tags. Navigator’s catalog includes more than 4 million open resources and 250,000 assessment questions.

Navigator indexes educational resources from publishers such as EngageNY, CK-12, NASA, Openstax, KQED, Khan Academy, among others. Its catalog of high-quality, metadata-tagged resources and questions is used widely in practice, organized by educators as collections and assessments, and is verified by leading researchers.

Content analysis of the learning activities associates the activities with transcripts, summary, and phrase-cloud. Machine classification connects learning activities with competencies and resource types. Navigator uses the data stream to compute metadata such as relevance, engagement, and efficacy. The metadata is reviewed and enhanced by human experts where appropriate.

Structure Learning and Organize Content

For every discipline of learning, Navigated Learning Collaborative members can collaborate to develop the competency framework complete with learning maps. Existing curriculum can then be aligned to the competency framework to enable the navigation experience.

Competencies are mapped to local norms such as state frameworks. Full-spectrum of learning activities can be organized as collections and assessments and then used to create lessons that are aligned to competencies. Learning activities are organized into lessons with assessments to enable learners to gain proficiency in the related competencies. To conform with current practices, the lessons for these competencies can be organized into units and courses.
